Pre-Conference Session – White House Project – 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
The New Face of Political Leadership: You

Conducted by: Stacey Chavis, Southern Regional Director, The White House Project

This session is actively seeking women who bring new resources and different experiences to political leadership. The training will focus on 1) garnering new skills to build your political power, 2) learning to navigate the unique barriers and opportunities women face, and 3) building your network for power and resources.

Whether you are a hardcore political player or a woman who may not yet be involved in politics, now is the time to think seriously about running for office, or to become more prominently involved as a civic leader! The White House Project works with progressive women of all political persuasions who are committed to ensuring women’s economic security, their safety, and their access to the full range of health options.

With 3.4 million new voters turning out at the polls this year, now is the time to capitalize on America’s new-found passion for politics by providing individuals with concrete steps for action. The White House Project is perfectly positioned to give the large numbers of women who now want to lead the skills, confidence and connections they need to take the next step in their political life.

Over the past four years, the WHP has trained 6,000 women to lead a political life. This election season alone, 110 of our alumnae ran for elective office, with nearly half emerging victorious from their races. Our trainees are also exceptionally diverse: As of 2007, 43% of our trainees were women of color, 46% earned less than $30,000 per year, and 70% were under the age of 35.
